“Observe My commandments, for the love of My beauty.” ~ Baha’u’llah

Being a Baha’i changes other aspects of life as well. There are a number of things that help free ones self from the trappings and dangers of the world. Like every main religion, the Baha’i Faith has laws that they are called to follow. Baha’i laws include the forbidding of alcoholic beverages, mind-altering or otherwise body-damaging drugs, sexual relations outside of marriage, and backbiting. At first, many people who become Baha’is may struggle with the laws. But over time they learn that these laws protect them. Baha’is follow the laws not out of fear of eternal damnation, but rather out of love and devotion to Baha’u’llah, and fear of losing His approval just as a child fears losing the approval of a loving parent. As Baha’u’llah wrote, “Observe My commandments, for the love of My beauty.” (KA, p. 20).
